Membership meeting January 20, 2008
I. Meeting
called to order at 6:07 PM
II. Roll Call: 26 members present; no guests
III. Minutes from November 2007 approved by the membership
IV. REPORTS:
1. Vice-President: no new report
2. Secretary: membership roster available
for updating by membership
3. Treasurer: Savings acct. $4343.28;
Checking acct. $600.360; dues for 2008 are
now due and will be collected through April
1, 2008
4. Event Coordinator: P. Smith attended the
reenactor roundtable on Jan. 19th.
See attached listing – events were
discussed and will be voted on at the February
membership meeting. Additional events
discussed included:
A. Macomb Cultural Center – 2/27/08 – 5/4/08 – “Michigan in the Civil
War”. P.Yockey to speak 3/30/08. P. Smith awaiting a return call from
the
centers’ Program Coordinator regarding the 17th participating in other
talks/demonstrations
B. Lincoln-Douglas Debate - 4/5/08 – F.Priebe and L.Steinberg to “lead
the debate”
C. E.Vitez suggested a group of 17th members attend this years November
Gettysburg Remembrance Day - ?? with and as the 24th Mich.
D. Manchester Middle School – 5/16/08; 9-2:30; same location and format
5. Committee reports:
A. Civilian: No reports; D.Tennies declined to be a member of the
committee; S.Pritchard agreed to serve on the committee
B. Communications: Editor for the 17th Mich. Communiqué/Dispatch
needed; A.Kohring has agreed to be the administrator of the 17th web
site
through Think Host - $30 renewal fee and $8.95/month; E.Vitez agreed to
be the temporary Webmaster until another agrees to do it; website is
being updated and all information to be on the website at
www.17thmicoe.org; E.Vitez requested an updated sutler list for the
website
C. Conduct: no reports
D. Historic/Preservation: G.Pritchard discussed the following
1. Ypsilanti marker: marker wording has been submitted to the state for
approval/denial; marker to be located at a site near but not on the old
barracks building; A.Kohring received information from Brian Vosberg
of the Ypsilanti Depot Town Development Authority re final lease on
building space
2. G.Pritchard contacted the Dearborn GAR re grave marker for William
Ferrier – they only do sites within the Tri-County area; Contact then
made with Dick Williams who handles sites outside of the Tri-County
area – work in progress
3. G.Pritchard discussed possible replacements for markers in the
Newburgh Cemetery – work in progress
4. William Ferrier Diary has been translated but not yet proofread
E. Military recruiting:
1. D.Fowler and ?Boy Scout sponsorship – information pending
2. G.Pritchard suggested a recruiting station at events
3. A.Assenmacher suggested an interview with the Dearborn Senior
Citizen group and advertisement on cable television
4. K.Jaynes suggested a new recruiting committee – new committee
formed to include K.Jaynes, A,Kohring, L.Steinberg, S.Pritchard,
S.Nosbich, and T.Fisher
F. Officer /NCO:
1. Ft. Wayne Officer/NCO drill/instruction March 8th
2. Ft. Wayne Combined infantry/artillery/cavalry drill April 18-20
3. Gettysburg 2008: July ’08 – registration now $20 – need by Feb.
membership mtg.
4. 17th drills begin 2/10 at Greenmead 4:30-5:30 PM
G. Quartermaster: broken finial now replaced; wall tent has new ridge
pole; 2 PVC flag carriers made by D.Nosbisch; canvas covers for these
PVC carriers to be made; all 17th equipment now cleaned as per
D.Nosbisch
V. Unfinished Business
1. M.Music presented his Coloring Book and
possible cost from Kinko’s; the
Board to review and decision to be made at the
Feb. membership mtg.
2. Emerson School CD’s made available
3. Donation of $1000 to the CWPT approved by the
membership top retain our
status as “Color Bearer”
4. $500 donation to the NMCWM tabled until
February pending information
from the museum
5. 17th Mich. 2008 calendars available
VI. New Business:
1. Greenmead commitment for use of the Meeting
House to include a lecture
series for February, March and April;
G.Pritchard, F.Priebe, and G.Turlo
Volunteered to provide these lectures
2. Spring Drill encampment for both military and
civilian suggested
3. K.Jaynes proposed a new shirt with 17th Mich.
